April – A month of first’s

I have a bit of a thing for April! Because it is my birthday month I always get a bit excited which is silly I suppose especially when the days of party hats and candles are long gone – honestly we don’t do that anymore!

However, because I launched the business on my birthday last year I have even more reason to celebrate. This past year has been a whirlwind and April didn’t disappoint either. I started off the month hosting a crafty Hen party which was lovely and I love using my skills in other ways, this time making bunting with the hens.

The following weekend was mine and Tamsyn’s long awaited second workshop in Derby, you can read all about that here, we had a really amazing day, I am always humbled by the comments that the ladies (men are allowed!) give us and it really does feel like we are helping to make a difference in lots of different ways to the creative journey that they are on.

The next day I was exhibiting at a wedding fair run by Save The Date at Calke Abbey. This is one of my favourite places to visit so I was excited to be exhibiting amongst some of the fabulous talent in the East midlands. I met some lovely couples all excited about their big day and other people in the industry. It really is an amazing industry to be a part of and I have been welcomed with open arms. Save the Date is a fantastic blog and I love being one of their recommended suppliers.

Whilst at Most Curious Wedding fair in London I got chatting to another lovely lady, Louise, who owns and runs ‘And So To Wed’, not only is this site a must for wedding inspiration but she pulls together a host of brilliant suppliers in the wedding industry. When you are new to anything it is always good to know that someone has your back and thats how I feel with Louise and the team, so I loved being accepted as an approved supplier for them this month too.  I also received a lovely goodie bag in the post and who doesn’t love a goodie bag?!!

The title of this blog is ‘A month of first’s’ so what is next? Well I had never been a published author until this month!! Yes, my article on Vintage in Leicestershire was in this months copy of Reclaim Magazine and I was over the moon to see it in print. I may have had a copy with me at all times, just in case someone wanted to see it!! If you haven’t read this mag yet you really should as its filled with wondrous collections, gorgeous houses and vintage tips and styling. I am hoping for more opportunities to write as I love it.

My other first and one I have been desperate for is that we had a wedding styled shoot featured on ‘So You’re Getting Married‘ blog. You can click on the link to see it in all its glory but I will do a separate post on it too soon. I was very lucky to have help from Lisa Pocklington – The Lovely Flower Studio and Lucie Brady – Lucie Brady Photography on the shoot and we had a fab day. The images turned out better than I imagined and so I was dead proud when Phoebe over at SYGM said she would feature it!!!!

To be honest I struggled to slow down in April, I purposefully wanted to spend the 2 week Easter holiday with my little family and not think about the business. We had a lovely time together and I am really glad I did but I find it difficult to switch off, I am always thinking about the next thing and how the business can be improved. May is jam packed so I am glad I pushed myself to stop and smell the flowers just a little bit.

Thank you April, you were wonderful (as always!) xx

Wow Katie – it’s been a great month for you. I loved meeting you and Tamsyn at the Decorative Vintage Styling workshop, and reading your article in Reclaim. I think you’re going to get busier and busier! Wonderful to be using your creative flair to earn a living – and I know what you mean about finding it hard to switch off!
