I always think when putting a plan together one should always do it in gorgeous surroundings!! This was certainly true when Tamsyn and I met for afternoon tea at Sketch in London last September and spent the day scheming and plotting!! From there the idea of the Decorative Vintage Styling Workshops were born.
What we were both certain of from the start was that we wanted this to be accessible to everyone and whilst going to London to attend workshops and courses is a lovely day out it isn’t always easy for everyone to do. We decided that we would host the first workshop in Tamsyn’s home city of Norwich and we set about finding a suitable venue. After finding Studio 20 we knew it would be perfect and a great backdrop to our vintage style.
Tickets sold out fast and we were very excited at meeting everyone on the day. We weren’t disappointed as each and every person was so lovely and a joy to spend time with. The most surprising thing for both of us was just how inspiring the day was. When you work alone it can become a battle to feel motivated and inspired on a daily basis and this was a great way to get out and meet new people whilst imparting a little knowledge along the way. We had spent all morning setting up the space and getting the homemade afternoon tea ready so it was a delight to see everyones faces once they saw all of the beautiful vintage props they would get to play with and the scummy food they would get to eat!
Everyone got to take home a goodie bag of some vintage and non vintage paper goods to style with at home and of course it wouldn’t be our style if we didn’t use flowers, so lots of gorgeous flowers were available for people to use during the day and then at the end of the session they all got stuck in to make a jam jar posy to take away.
We really did have a wonderful day and I hope that ladies that attended also got lots out of it. The hashtag on Instagram #decorativevintagestyling is now full of amazing images both from the day and since and its heartwarming to see. One thing that was really fab was the range of different businesses that attended, we had a florist, jewellery makers, vintage sellers and other various small businesses, events like these are always great for meeting new people in the creative industry and you just never know who will walk through the door.
So,,,,,, where to next? Well have decided to move on to the Midlands which is my neck of the woods and the next workshop is being held at The Enterprise Centre , part of Derby University. The rooms, although more modern have got the most fantastic natural light and it will be a pleasure to take photographs in the conservatory. We hope you can join us this time, tickets can be purchased HERE along with more info on the day.
Can’t wait to meet you and feel inspired all over again.
Katie & Tamsyn xx
